ROME – By stopping the clock at 1: 29.625 seconds and hitting a top speed of 281 km / h, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale Assetto Fiorano set the lap record for a production car on the 3.925 km of the Indianapolis circuit. The supercar from Maranello is the company’s most powerful car ever and its first vehicle to adopt Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle technology as standard (1,000 hp, and a weight / power ratio of 1.57 kg / hp).
“The name SF90 Stradale is a tribute to the 90 years of Scuderia Ferrari and underlines the fundamental role that motorsports have in the development of road cars – said Matteo Torre, president of Ferrari North America – so it was quite natural to have just this weekend the SF90 Stradale will be on track here at the Indianapolis circuit during the Ferrari Racing Days, where the Ferrari Challenge, the F1 Clienti activities and the XX Programs were also held ”.
Returning to the record on the Indianapolis track, the “red” was equipped with the Assetto Fiorano which provides several upgrades compared to the standard version such as, for example, special Multimatic shock absorbers derived from the world of GT racing, high lightness thanks to high performance materials such as carbon fiber (used for the door panels and the underbody) and titanium (springs and the entire exhaust line) for a “cure” that makes you lose thirty kilograms on the scale.
Another notable difference is the high downforce carbon fiber rear spoiler which generates 390 kg of downforce at 250 km / h. The Assetto Fiorano can then be complemented by Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2R tires designed ad hoc to improve performance on the track in the dry, as occurred on the occasion of the lap record set in Indianapolis. “It was really a great emotion – said Mark Raffauf, senior director of race operations at the International Motor Sports Association, who supervised the test – to witness the extraordinary performance of the Ferrari SF90 Stradale which set this new lap record”.
