After about 20 years, the collaboration of the Centro Storico del Finale in the management of the San Giovanni Fort was interrupted. The agreement of the Finale association will expire on 30 April and will no longer be renewed, based on the decision of the Liguria Museums Regional Directorate, which manages the structure on behalf of the Ministry of Culture. A public tender will be made shortly to find the new manager.

The association’s interest in the Fort began at the beginning of the 1990s, with the first editions of the «Night Excursions to the Castelli Finalesi». “From 1999 to 2001, the Centro Storico del Finale – says the board of the association – was committed, voluntarily and free of charge, to the Sunday opening of the structure to the public, while from 2001 to 2018, the Fort was occasionally used for holding some successful events. From 2018 to today, the Centro Storico del Finale, thanks to specific contracts with the Fort’s owners and the concrete commitment of some members, had maintained the continuous and free opening of the structure to the public, at the same time engaging in its internal and external cleaning. and routine maintenance of the areas adjacent to the Fort, as well as guided tours of the schools in Finale and neighboring areas. Starting from April 30th, unfortunately we will finish the task assumed up to now and carried out with passion and sacrifice ».
