From African culture to Greek mythology: in Vigliano the dance festival “Choreographic interchanges”

by admin

The stories of African culture and Greek mythology, with their symbols and meanings, live through the gesture of dance in the double appointment scheduled at the Erios Theater in Vigliano, where the “Choreographic interchanges” exhibition continues, inserted in the “IpuntiDanza” path and organized by the company EgriBiancoDanza with the Municipality.

The exhibition is linked to the network that connects national and international dance realities, allows the Biella public to see works of the highest quality that are an expression of what contemporary dance currently offers. The protagonists of the shows are two Tuscan companies.

Today at 5.30 pm Movimentoinactor Teatrodanza will present «Gazela, Aunt Akima and the spirit of wisdom», in which the meaning of travel is explored as a path of growth and knowledge. The show, which takes its cue from a story by the Malian writer Amadou Hampaté Ba, tells the story of Gazela, so called because it is as agile and fast as a gazelle. One night the old aunt Akima, who raised her and who lives in a very distant village, appears to the girl in a dream and asks her to go and see her because she feels close to death. Gazela then sets off on a journey in which she will meet some very particular animals, each of which has a secret to reveal to her. The choreography, interpreted by Elisa Paini and Leila Ghiabbi, is signed by Flavia Bucciero.

Tomorrow at 9 pm the Francesca Selva Company will present «Pietà for Icaro» which, starting from the myth of Daedalus and Icarus, explores the concept of the labyrinth, which becomes a metaphor for today’s society. Daedalus is the architect and builder of the labyrinth, but by now he can’t even find the exit, becoming its victim and prisoner, together with his son Icaro. The father-son relationship and the generational clash open the scenario of a substantial loss of those values and references, even of political and sentimental conscience, which confuse the father, guilty of not having the foresight to protect the future of his son and of the new generations. Based on a subject by Marcello Valassina and choreography by Francesca Selva, the show is interpreted by an actor (Roberto Gonnelli) and a dancer (Luciano Nuzzolese).
