ALEXANDRIA. “With three femicides in a few days, we are approaching 25 November in the worst way.” Sarah Sclauzero, president of the Alexandrian association Me.dea, thus introduces the initiatives on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. She explains: “There is still a lot to do to change a sexist and misogynist culture, which denies freedom and rights to women. We invite everyone to stop tomorrow to remember this emergency ».

The association has organized a flash mob for tomorrow 25 November, which will be in the Lega square at 10, entitled “Free all” in collaboration with Alter Ego, Avis Alessandria, Cgil, Cisl, Uil, Consulta Equal Opportunities Alessandria, Enaip, Gomitolo Rosa, Monferrato Chapter, Identity cards, Unione ciechi and many citizens and activists.

At 10.30 the city will stop for a minute of silence promoted by Zonta Club Alessandria and the “Cantiello e Gaeta” prison as part of the “Hands off women” campaign. At 11 in the chapel of the monumental cemetery there will be a moment of prayer in memory of the women victims of violence by the Italian Center for Women and Soroptimist.

The initiatives will then start from today with the Meier bridge which will be illuminated in orange at 18.30, thanks to the collaboration of Zonta Club and the Department of Equal Opportunities and Consultation Equal Opportunities of the Municipality and which will remain illuminated until 10 December, at the end of the 16 days of worldwide mobilization against violence against women. But the appointment at the bridge will already be at 6 pm with the presentation of the banner again by Zonta Club, on the services of the Me.dea anti-violence center. At 7 pm the “Afghan women, identity denied” aperitif organized by the Inner Wheel at the Alli Due Buoi Rossi hotel will begin. Alessandria, like Acqui and Casale, have been participating in the campaign promoted by the UN “Orange the world” for years. Together with them also some countries such as Castelletto Monferrato and Fresonara and from this year there will also be Borgoratto Alessandrino and Frascaro: from tomorrow until December 10, Human Rights Day, each administration will display an orange banner on their municipal buildings.
