The signal arrived at the conclusion of the Vicenzaoro September 2021 edition marks a decisive step towards the return to normality and has brought a further wave of enthusiasm to a sector that had already registered a series of comforting signs. According to what was released by the Confindustria Moda Study Center on Istat data for Ferderorafi, in fact, the Italian gold-jewelery sector between January and May 2021 marked a + 2.8% on 2019 in exports. To these numbers must be added those communicated by the Italian Exhibition Group which organized the five-day event. There were over 800 exhibitors, while buyers and visitors were 80% compared to those of 2019. Of these 30% came from abroad (77% from EU countries, 7% from the Middle East, the rest from the USA, Russia and North Africa).
The balance sheet for all the categories involved, the organizers said, was satisfactory and this despite the lack of attendance from some key nations, China above all. Stands reduced to the essentials to guarantee safety within the exhibition space, with many important brands as protagonists (Damiani Group, Roberto Coin, Fope, Gismondi 1754, Marco Bicego, Crivelli and Fabergé) flanked by a rich program of talks and seminars that analyzed the sector: not only that of precious, but also the watchmaking sector which was given prominence with the setting up of an area called VO’Clock which hosted 23 independent brands such as Corum, Junghans, Cyrus, Brera Milano and Meccaniche Veloci.

In addition, a course was held by the FHH – Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie and there were many appointments to discuss the state of the contemporary world of hands (Mario Peserico, president of Assorologi also spoke). The fair also unveiled the absolute premiere that the great master watchmaker Vincent Calabrese gave to the audience on 11 September presenting the “Calasys System”: a technical innovation that in the future it could do, by improving its performance, the work that the spiral has done (for centuries) in a mechanical movement. Calabrese also declared that this invention of his will not be under patent: “I am interested in the philosophical development of our sector”.
From the future of watchmaking to vintage, to whose market is in great ferment (as shown by the results of auctions around the world and online), Vicenzaoro has dedicated the VO Vintage event which was held from Saturday 11 to Monday 13 where, under the motto of see now buy now, well-known players specialized in vintage hands they intervened with their little treasures. We won’t have to wait long for the next edition of the fair. The date has already been announced: from 21 to 26 January.
