From volumes to profits, Renault focuses on electrification

by admin

In 2021 Renault increased its commercial vehicle sales but saw its passenger car sales decline for the second consecutive year, for an overall reduction of 6.7% in volumes and a market share of 4.7% (7.1% in Europe). A result that the head of Sales and Operations Director Fabrice Cambolive frames in the difficult context of the last two years but above all in the light of the new strategy that focuses above all on “value” and puts absolute volumes in the background.

“We have privileged the” quality “of sales over absolute numbers and on this path 2022 will see the positive trend consolidate with the contribution of new models such as the electric Megane E-Tech and the Arkana crossover and the new Austral that will strengthen us in the segment. C “.

Cambolive argues that Renault is in a position to increase its competitiveness thanks to the strengthening of the range in the fastest growing segments worldwide and with the support of its commitment to electrification.

The growth in sales of electrified cars, those that make up the E-Tech range in Renault and which in 2021 represented 30% of the total (compared to 17% in 2020), is considered the decisive element for improving margins. and financial results (to be announced next month).

The Renault Zoe is currently the best seller in France among battery cars, in second position in Italy and in third in Germany and is in second place in the cumulative in Europe.

With regard to hybrid engines, the brand can count on the great adaptability of the E-Tech system which has come to represent 30% of sales, on a general European average of 26%.

In the perspective of the French group, there is also a greater expansion on non-European markets (which currently represent 44% of total sales) and the strengthening of its continental leadership among commercial vehicles (with a share of 15.7%) that this year will also benefit from the introduction of the fully electric Kangoo Van.

2022 will therefore be the key year to see the first fruits of the “Renaulution” promoted by Luca De Meo at the time of his appointment at the top of the group; strategy that initially resulted in improving the quality of sales of the existing range (“high-end” and electrified versions, high share of private sales) and which in the future will count on the arrival of new models in the main segments and iconic cars such as the Alpine and the R5 E-Tech Electric.
