Gao Jia Opera “Fan Jinzhong Ju” performance scene.

On November 14th, on the night of Double Ninth Festival, a drama that made people cry and laugh was staged in the Jingyun Grand Theater. On the stage of the 17th China Theater Festival, the Quanzhou Gaojia Opera Inheritance Center came to Han for the first time, bringing Gaojia Opera “Fan Jinzhong Ju”, which was adapted to pay tribute to the classic repertoire in the form of a unique comedy performance. “Smile” firmly grasped the mood of the audience.

Early adopters, the largest opera genre in Fujian Province sings into Wuhan

At 19:15 in the evening, it was only 15 minutes before the performance was left. Outside the Jingyun Grand Stage Theater, an old gentleman was still waiting for the “leak”. After several inquiries to no avail, he said with regret: “I heard that today is the only Fujian show, but unfortunately I didn’t get the ticket.” Repertoire. For Wuhan theater fans, Gaojia theater is not too familiar. This type of drama came to Han to perform in 2017. This time it is the first time that Quanzhou Gaojia Opera Inheritance Center has come to Han to participate in the Chinese Theatre Festival.

As the largest opera genre in Fujian, Gaojia opera is popular in southern Fujian such as Quanzhou and Xiamen. As early as 2006, it was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists.

Ridiculous and sad, the drama is the epitome of the times

For the Wuhan audience, the Fujian dialect used in “Fan Jinzhongju” still sounds a bit difficult to understand. It requires the use of subtitles beside the stage to understand the lyrics, but this does not prevent the audience from feeling ups and downs due to the promotion of the plot. “I don’t know how to say it, I feel that (the role) is sometimes ridiculous and sad, and cannot be called a tragedy or comedy in a complete sense. In the context of the times, the individual is still quite powerless.” The nearly two-hour drama ended. Later, the female audience Hu Yao said that every time she laughed, she felt a little sad, “For example, at the opening, Fan Jin’s father-in-law treats him badly, and his daughter is still paternal. I think There is still emotional resonance.”

19 actors and 18 harlequins, there was a lot of laughter

When Fan Jin learned to yell with his mother, describing “selling chicken” as “selling chicken feet”, and accompanied by light and funny music, there was a burst of laughter.

Amusing the audience is a masterpiece of Gaojia play. Among the more than 900 traditional repertoires inherited from Gaojia Opera, comedy repertoire accounts for half. Chief Director Zhou Jiejun introduced that in “Fan Jinzhong Ju”, there are 18 harlequins out of the 19 actors, but the whole scene is not monotonous. The arrangement of the laughs of each character is reasonable and does not give the audience a feeling of uniformity.

“Gaojia opera is a drama with ancient accumulations. The predecessors left us with a rich variety of comedy performances. This time it is only the tip of the iceberg. “A play is carried forward.” Zhou Jiejun said, “In the future, we will not only take root in the motherland, but also look at the world, arrange Shakespeare’s works, etc., make good use of the inherited rich artistic performance methods, and continue to explore the peak of art.”
