ROME – The Renault group has signed two important partnerships in the field of electric vehicle batteries with specialists Envision Aesc and Verkor. The agreements are part of the “battery plan” of the French company and are part of the strategy for the design and production, at home, of the batteries for its electric vehicles. The objective of these two agreements is to place France at the center of the “Renaulution” road map, the strategic plan announced at the beginning of the year.

Going into detail, the partnership with Envision Aesc will lead to the creation of a gigafactory in Douai, near its ElectriCity, to produce cutting-edge, low-carbon, economically competitive batteries for electric models, including the future R5. Among other things, the gigafactory in Douai represents a fundamental resource for achieving the zero emissions goal in Europe in 2040 and in the world in 2050, with electric vehicles which, in 2030, will represent 90% of the sales of the lozenge brand.

The Renault group then signed a memorandum of understanding to enter the capital of Verkor with a stake of more than 20% to develop a high-performance battery for the Renault C and higher segments, but also for the Alpine models. Subsequently, Verkor will carry out its project to build the first high performance battery gigafactory in France. The collaboration between the two companies will be based on a joint action plan to reduce the CO2 emissions of the battery manufacturing process by 75% compared to current processes and to create a supply chain that will make traceability possible, guaranteeing the safety of raw materials. for electric vehicles.

Thanks to these two partnerships with the Renault ElectriCity activity center, it will be possible to create around 4,500 direct jobs in France by 2030 and to start a solid ecosystem for the production of batteries in the heart of the Old Continent.
