TURIN. World Press Photo presents the finalist photos of the 65th edition of the competition and makes an appointment at the end of April in Turin when the exhibition, for the 2021 edition, will return to Palazzo Madama. The potential winners of the World Press Photo 2021 were announced today, divided into eight sections: Contemporary Issues, Environment, General News, Long-TermProjects, Nature, Portraits, Sports, Spot News.
As every year, among the selected photos, the World Press Photo of the Year 2021 and the World Press Photo Story of the Year 2021 will also be awarded. These, together with the first three classified by category, will then compose the World Press Photo exhibition Exhibition 2021 which will be hosted, for the second consecutive year, at Palazzo Madama and in one hundred other cities, in 45 countries around the world.
The exhibition will arrive in Turin at the end of April, pandemic situation permitting, for the fifth consecutive year, thanks to the commitment of Cime, partner of the World Press Photo Foundation of Amsterdam, and of the Torino Musei Foundation.
Every year thousands of photojournalists from major international publications, such as National Geographic, Bbc, Cnn, Le Monde, El Pais, compete for the title in the various categories of the photojournalism contest. In January 2021, the evaluation of the World Press Photo 2021 contest took place, for the first time in its history, online, with seven specialized juries chaired by NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati and Muyi Xiao who selected the best images and stories in each of the eight categories of the competition.
This year, 4,315 photographers from 130 countries submitted 74,470 images. Among the finalists this year there are three Italians: Lorenzo Tugnoli (category: World Press Photo of the year – Spot news stories), Antonio Faccilongo (Story of the year – Long term project) and Gabriele Galimberti (Portraits stories).
The names of the winners will be announced on April 15th. From today until the inauguration of the exhibition, the finalist photos will be presented on the Facebook page and on the Instagram profile of World Press Photo Turin.
