A situation revealed by a new research from Honda Motor Europe which has highlighted a knowledge gap for drivers of cars with traditional petrol and diesel fuel in the field of electrified vehicles. Data collected from 5,000 internal combustion car drivers across Europe shows that nearly two thirds (61%) of drivers find the search for hybrid and electric vehicles too confusing, due to technical jargon (40%), no user experience or real life examples (31%) and vague terms and phrases (30%).
In the UK, for example, although more than half (57%) of respondents see electric and hybrid vehicles as the future of the car, and a third (36%) plan to buy one in the next two years, one user on ten (9%) of petrol and diesel cars would not buy it if they ran into unclear terminology. Honda found the solution with the “e: Technology Translator”, a new online tool that offers simple explanations of commonly used phrases and technologies for hybrid and electric vehicles. Thanks to a team of owners of electric and hybrid Honda vehicles, gathered to help users understand the benefits of choosing an electrified vehicle, it was possible to translate the terminology from “insiders” using personal experiences and anecdotes bringing it back to life. real.

In addition to explaining the difference between parallel, mild and self-charging hybrids or going into the details of slow, fast and fast charging, the translators of e: Technology also debunk common myths about hybrids and electric vehicles. For example, more than a quarter (27%) of respondents do not believe that the range of a battery-powered vehicle would suit their daily needs, while nearly a fifth (18%) believe that electrics require more maintenance than their current car. . In addition, one in ten European motorists (9%) believe they cannot use the radio, heating or air conditioning when driving a hybrid in full electric mode. As a result of these misconceptions, a third (32%) of respondents said they would not be safe to drive an electric vehicle due to their current lack of knowledge.
