In 1933 the young Carlo Mollino, who later became internationally famous as an architect of the Teatro Regio and the Chamber of Commerce in Turin, won an architecture competition and designed his first work in Cuneo. It is a curious construction because it reflects the transition from training to profession: Mollino, who graduated in 1931, was only 28 years old at the time of the construction site. The building is in progress 4th November: «the rationalist construction with lively colors, characterized by elegant detailed solutions that anticipate the sagacity in the choice of materials and the technical virtuosity of the author».

On Saturday 9 April, the “Horizons of Architecture-APS” association, in collaboration with the Municipality of Cuneo, organizes a day dedicated to Carlo Mollino, inscribing his work in Cuneo within the framework of local rationalism. At 2 pm at the Monviso cinema, the historian of architecture Laura Milan, author of numerous publications on the author, will hold the Lectio: «Mollino before Mollino». The intervention on the youthful work of the Turin architect will be introduced by an overview of the local architectural context: «Cuneo, echoes of modernity» given by the architect Giovanni Fenoglio, researcher at the Faculty of Engineering in Rome 2.
Napoleone Ferrari, president of the Carlo Mollino House Museum in Turin, will present the volume «Carlo Mollino Architect and Storyteller».
At 5 pm, starting from the Monviso cinema, a guided tour of the rationalist works of Cuneo which, in addition to the former headquarters of the fascist farmers of Carlo Mollino, will touch the former Gil, now the headquarters of the «S. Grandis ”, the Mother and Child’s Home, currently the“ Sunflowers ”nursery and the House of the mutilated.
The day will end in the cloister of the former San Francesco at 7pm with the vernissage of the exhibition “Rationalism in Cuneo” which can be visited throughout the month of April from Tuesday to Sunday from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.

«Orizzonti d’Architettura» is a cultural association founded in 2021 by the young architects Lorenzo Fantino, Giovanni Fenoglio and Anna Giulia Reineke with the aim of spreading the culture of building and promoting the architectural heritage in Piedmont. The event is part of a cycle of conferences “Dialogues on building” which will be held in the Granda for the whole of 2022.
