ROME – A dive into the past to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Bentley design department. With this in mind, Mulliner’s team of specialists carried out a meticulous search in the archives of the Crewe factory and identified a series of body paints dating back to the 1930s. Four of these colors are available, namely Tortora (Dove Gray), Purple (Claret), Old English White and Oxford Blue, timeless and elegant liveries, to offer a classic touch to the new Bentley models.
The team also identified more than 15 colors that have been part of the Bentley palette for over 50 years and today one of these historic colors can be chosen through Mulliner’s Personal Commissioning Guide. Crewe-based craftsmen use paints with both manual application experience and the latest robotic technology to deliver the best possible finish on every car. The four ancient liveries included in the Mulliner and Extended palette represent thirty years of history and color research, including a color chosen by one of the most iconic Bentleys, the R Type Continental in Tortora, one of the longest-lived colors of the brand, part of the Extended color range, which dates back to the Bentley Derby of the 1930s. Claret, on the other hand, is a rich two-tone color created specifically for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Bentley Golden Jubilee.
This unique livery was inspired by the Royal Claret, a colourway used on all Royal Bentleys since the 1940s and is characterized by warm tones that give any model an impression of aristocratic solidity. Old English White dates back to the 1950s and sports a solid white finish that lends a timeless air to any car in the range. Finally, one of the darker blues in the color palette is Oxford Blue which was first made in the 1960s and then relaunched as part of the Diamond Series in 1998.
