In the Maira valley, the debate on the future of the former Pisacane barracks in Prazzo reopens

by admin

The vice president of the Region and councilor for the mountains, Fabio Carosso, and the regional councilor for health, Luigi Icardi, met the administrators of the Maira Valley on Saturday to discuss the future of the former Carlo Pisacane barracks in Prazzo Inferiore. An immense area of 22 thousand square meters (more than three football fields), with twelve buildings, acquired in 2015 by the military property, dwhere a program agreement signed at the time by the former administrators of the mountain union, provided for a new school complex in the valley, financed by the Internal Areas Strategy with over 3 million.

The newly elected, however, want to update it and in a resolution of 2019 the assembly of 13 mayors asked to keep the middle school at the Stroppo boarding school, creating only nursery and elementary schools in Prazzo, with a significant reduction in costs (2 million). By changing the project, the risk is to lose resources. In the last two years there have therefore been meetings, also in Rome, with the governor Alberto Cirio who had accompanied the vice president and the councilor of the Union, Francesco Cioffi and Sandro Agnese, to the minister Mara Carfagna to obtain reassurance on the funds. “The minister reassured everyone and sent the matter back to the Region – explains the president of the Union, Valerio Carsetti -. We are in the critical phase. The offices are working to prepare the necessary documentation. It is not a substantial modification to the project, we only ask you to respect the will of the territory and protect its interests, without wasting public money ».

However, there are not only schools. «Arranging that area means doubling the volume of the town – says the new mayor of Prazzo, Gabriele Lice -. We can no longer allow this situation of degradation and abandonment, without a strong, decisive, immediate intervention, we risk having an open landfill ». Hence the invitation to Carosso and Icardi, who after an inspection of the former barracks gathered in the council chamber of the Municipality of Prazzo, to examine the ideas and projects of the Administration that could materialize in the former military area. «In addition to schools, structures for personal, cultural and health services to improve the lives of residents – underlines the first citizen of Lice -, but also to attract new settlements, both residential and productive. And then sustainable energy, district heating, culture, tourism and health, “Seeds” to be planted to transform a former military complex into a flagship of the whole Maira valley ». The regional councilors confirmed their interest and support in supporting mountain areas to enhance development and services on the inland areas tender, but also to develop and implement new projects within the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
