Lamborghini knows no crisis: sales are flying

ROMA – Record for Lamborghini. Despite the pandemic effect, 2020 was the second best year ever both in terms of turnover and in terms of cars delivered. La casa del Toro closed last year’s fiscal year 2020 with a turnover of 1.61 billion euros, despite the 11 percent decline compared to 2019 due to the 70-day production stop in the spring months, in compliance with government directives during the first phase of the Covid emergency.

Numbers in hand, in 2020 Lamborghini delivered 7,430 cars worldwide, a value that represents the second best commercial result ever after the record year of 2019 with 8,205 deliveries (775 fewer cars, therefore). The most prolific market is the United States with 2,224 units, followed by Germany (607), Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau (604), Japan (600), United Kingdom (517). Italy closes the ranking, with only 347 cars delivered.

“Our immediate reactivity, an ideal mix of models and the growing demand for customization of our products have pushed the profitability indicators to the highest levels”, comments Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of the Sant’Agata Bolognese company. “The brand, in a difficult year, has shown great strength and growing attractiveness, going against the trend of the global luxury market.”

2021 opened in the name of optimism, with the commercial launch of the Huracán STO – Super Trofeo Homologated: a track super sports car approved for road use, inspired by the sporting tradition of the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO series developed specifically for the one-make championship from Lamborghini Squadra Corse, but also to the Huracán GT3 EVO, three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona and twice of the 12 Hours of Sebring. Its naturally aspirated 640 hp (470 kW) V10 engine generating 565 Nm at 6,500 rpm, accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.0 seconds, from 0 to 200 km / h in 9 seconds. , 0 seconds and a top speed of 310 km / h. The technical features include a design solution that the Lamborghini engineers have christened “Cofango”, a term that combines the two words hood and mudguard: front hood, mudguards and front bumper are integrated into a single element. Inspired by the Miura and the more recent Sesto Element, on the STO this system was made entirely of carbon fiber, a particularly light material. The key to opening the STO Cofango is also unique in its kind: developed internally by the R&D team, it is printed with the 3D technique.

“2021 opens with very positive prospects – concludes Winkelmann – the deliveries of the first two months of this year already exceed those of the previous pre-pandemic period and the orders collected so far already cover nine months of production this year.”
