The key points

  • Two historic textile and food companies join forces to create a sustainable fabric
  • The Bottoli wool mill produces a fabric made with the intertwining of silk threads dyed with the grounds of Dersut coffee
  • A further recycling of coffee grounds could be the basis of an innovative method of filtration and purification of waste water.

An unprecedented collaboration between two Venetian textile and food companies was born in the name of the circular economy and sustainability. 1949) by the Caballini family of Sassoferrato and today also present on the markets of the United Arab Emirates, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

The project

Plaids, blankets, fabrics, in delicate natural and coffee colors. These are the first images of the new productions. The Lanificio, leader in the production of high-end clothing fabrics, has been at the forefront of the ecological theme for years with its line of natural fabrics without chemical dyes and now for the next Spring / Summer 2023 season Bottoli is investing further in the theme of sustainability and offers natural fabrics made with the intertwining of silk threads dyed with coffee grounds.

The technique is innovative and the process allows the reuse of coffee grounds, a by-product that bars and restaurants must still dispose of. The collaboration with Dersut coffee, a Venetian excellence in the Horeca sector, provides for the recycling of coffee grounds collected by some of its customers (4 thousand in Italy and abroad including a hundred single-brand coffee shops). And the prospects are even broader: a further recycling of coffee grounds could be the basis of an innovative method of filtration and purification of waste water.
