“Let’s get digital”, at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence digital art makes its way into the heart of the Renaissance

FROM THE ENROLLED TO FLORENCE. The revolution has arrived: digital art and NFTs make their entrance into a museum, and find a home in an institutional, classic and important location such as Palazzo Strozzi in Florence. “Let’s get digital!” opens a new frontier, a breach in the heart of the Renaissance and it is an extraordinary glance to enter Palazzo Strozzi and observe the work of Refik Anadol, a Turkish digital artist, whose immense video installation (nine meters by six) immediately catches the eye and in the soul, referring to dreams and hallucinations, able as it is, Anadol, to rework with artificial intelligence (but not only) colors and shapes of Renaissance paintings and transform them into a hypnotic and sensorial experience.

And that there is an air of revolution, you can notice by observing that just behind the installation there is a queue that forms minute by minute, of groups of tourists and Italian and foreign students, to attend the unmissable exhibition on Donatello, another flower in the world. eyelet of the Florentine Foundation. No, they are not sacred and profane that come close to colliding, but they are different languages: “Donatello, with his, has changed the world – says Arturo Galansino, director general of the Foundation – today many artists are doing it, first of all those that we are hosting in this exhibition, representatives of a phenomenon not yet historicized, but which has entered our lives for two years. And the artists participating in “Let’s get digital!” they are among the most important of this universe, or rather let us say, of this Metaverse and confirm our ambition to unite avant-garde, tradition, research and dissemination ».

Metaverse, Nft, blockchain and crypto art are terms that are entering our lives day after day, accompanied, as always happens with news, by an aura of mystery and perplexity. “But as far as art is concerned – says Serena Tabacchi, curator of the exhibition and founder in London of the first digital art museum – these new tools have certified and disseminated the work of many artists who until recently were only appreciated in social community and instead can now be part of the ecosystem of contemporary art “. And so, trying to convince the most skeptical, making them understand that even a pixel can be art, Tabacchi’s invitation is to enter the exhibition without prejudice, letting oneself be immersed in her works ». Works that bear the signature of Anodol, Beeple (yes, the American artist who sold one of his works for 69 million dollars, upsetting the market), Daniel Arsham, Krista Kim, Andrés Resinger and the collective Anyma, represented by Matteo Millari and Alessio De Vecchi.

A new challenge, therefore, also for the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation, which after having brought the street artist JR and the young artists who gave life to “Alter Eva” to the museum, now focuses on NFT. And it records the entry into the board of directors of Andy Bianchedi, president of the Hillary Merkus Recordati Foundation, partner of the exhibition inaugurated today (Tuesday 17 May, and open until 31 July) and of the «Palazzo Strozzi future art» project. “The goal – says Bianchedi – is to represent a consistent platform to support talents and to encourage all forms of contemporary creativity”.
