Recently, Nielsen, a market research and analysis company, announced the statistics on the viewing hours of US streaming platforms in 2021. As a result, the well-known series “Lucifer” won the championship, while last year’s popular dark horse “Squid Games” ranked second.
The data shows that the total viewing time of “Lucifer” reached 18.3 billion minutes, far exceeding the 16.4 billion minutes of “Squid Game”. However, compared to Lucifer’s staggering 93 episodes over six seasons, it’s remarkable that “Squid Games” can do this with just one season and nine episodes. In addition, Nielsen also pointed out that American audiences are more likely to choose the English dubbed version when watching “Squid Game”, while only 15% choose the original text with English subtitles.
It is worth mentioning that 12 of the top 15 are from Netflix exclusive series, including “Lucifer” and “Squid Game”, as well as “Great British Baking Show” and “YOU” and other popular masterpieces, The Marvel series “WandaVision” from Disney+ came in at No. 14.
