Menem said that Deputies must analyze decrees applied since 2021

This Wednesday, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, referred to those who had described as an “attack on the institutions” the delay in the constitution of the Bicameral Commission for Legislative Treatment, which must analyze the economic deregulation decree issued by President Javier Milei at the end of 2023, in the first weeks after assuming his mandate.

Menem pointed out that they still have to “designate authorities and begin to deal with the decrees starting in 2021 that were not dealt with” and blamed Unión por la Patria (UP) for the delay.

“The same people who endorsed not dealing with any DNU either in 2023 or in 2021 stood up due to an institutional attack. The last time this Commission met and worked was in 2018,” he indicated in statements to CNN Radio.

He added that the delay came because “Unión por la Patria sent more names than they had to send” and added that they still have to “designate authorities and start dealing with the decrees starting in 2021 that were not dealt with.”

“They sent me a list with five names informally, they had to send three. I rejected them and they sent me four, I told them no again and they told me that I had to cross out one,” she said.

Likewise, Menem accused the head of the Unión por la Patria bloc, Germán Martínez, of “putting himself on the list on purpose to be crossed off” and asked “not to dramatize because it is part of the game of politics.”

“We have already raised the names, it is up to them to appoint authorities,” he said.

Meanwhile, he also referred to the return to committee of the “bases” law and assured that “it will be evaluated at the appropriate time.”

“We will see if those who did not accompany us become aware that this law is exactly what the people voted for in 2023,” he indicated.

In addition, he once again downplayed the statements of President Milei, who assured that the National Congress was “a rat’s nest.”

“The President has built his political career with a way of expressing himself, there is no need to dramatize, for me it does not hinder anything,” said Menem and maintained that “we must move forward and avoid this type of analysis” because he considered that “it is part of political life, they are political things.”
