Mayor Salvo Pogliese has signed a decree with which the Etnean body joins the District
CATANIA – Establish a “network” to protect and enhance even more effectively the wonders of the Sicilian Baroque recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is with this objective that the mayor of the Metropolitan City of Catania Salvo Pogliese signed a decree with which the Etna Authority joins the South East Tourist District. “Our land is rich in countless scenic, artistic and historical wonders – he declared Pogliese – and among them the Baroque, recognized by Unesco as a World Heritage Site, plays a prominent role. Precisely to better protect and make known these extraordinary artistic works, the Metropolitan City of Catania has decided to join the South East Tourist District, managing body of the ‘Late Baroque Towns of Val di Notò’ site, to network with the other Municipalities and Institutional Bodies that already adhere to it. A network – he added – to maintain and transmit to future generations the works of creative geniuses who have given life to masterpieces artistic, mosaics, and Baroque architecture of great cultural and anthropological importance, often pleasantly set in the naturalistic beauties t ipiche of eastern Sicily and which attract tourists and scientists from all over the world. The Tourist District – concluded Pogliese – manages the site and will also be the referent for participation in the calls for tenders of Law 77/2006, to access funding also useful for seasonally adjusting tourism and directing flows towards the hinterland that are still not sufficiently exploited ».
