ROME – Change of strategy for Mitsubishi which until the same time ago seemed willing to leave the European markets. The Renault Nissan Alliance, which since 2016 also includes the Japanese manufacturer of the Three Diamonds, has in fact announced that it has found a solution that will allow Mitsubishi, through the production in the European factories of Losanga of two models with Renault, to maintain a presence in some European countries.
The Mitsubishi range will therefore be completed – starting from 2023 – with vehicles built starting from models of the French car manufacturer to achieve two important results: update the offer – probably with a ‘small’ one that will replace the Colt and a segment uv B – to be able to expand its offer in Europe and, on the Renault side, to make the Losanga industrial network work at full speed, which currently travels at around 70% of capacity.
Mitsubishi had located a production in Europe in 1991, manufacturing the Mirage and, at the same time, the derivative Volvo V40 at the Nedcar plant in Holland, but this joint venture had stopped in 2004. Subsequently, Nedcar – which became 100% owned by Mitsubishi – was built the Colt, in this case alongside the derivative Smart ForFour for Daimler. The stop came in this case in 2006.
