The wait is over. The winners of the 48th edition of the Mondello International Literary Prize are Vincenzo Latronico with The perfections (Bompiani), Michela Marzano with Bloodline and shame (Rizzoli), Domenico Starnone with Mortal and immortal life of the little girl from Milan (Mondadori), for the Italian Opera section; Mario Baudino with The theater of the bed. Nocturnal stories between books, heroes, ghosts and fatal women (La Nave di Teseo), for the Critical Work section.
The wise False movement. The quantitative breakthrough in the study of literature by Franco Moretti (Nottetempo) receives, on the proposal of the president, the Special Jury Prize.
The essay by Baudino, a journalist for La Stampa, is «a cultured itinerary on the pleasures that the bed, a place of emotions and feelings, invites to cradle». Marzano’s bloodline and shame, columnist of the Gedi group, tells “with a straightforward and pressing voice a story of remembrance and memory, because ‘only in this way can we hope that certain things will never happen again”.
The winners were proclaimed by a selection committee chaired by Professor Giovanni Puglisi and composed of the writers Alessandro Beretta, Nicola H. Cosentino and Antonella Lattanzi. “The choices of the Selection Committee for the Italian Opera section – reads a note – reward novels that are very different in style and content and testify to the liveliness and variety of contemporary Italian fiction”.
The Mondello Prize is promoted by the Sicily Foundation in collaboration with the Circolo dei readers Foundation, the International Book Fair, the Andrea Biondo Foundation and in agreement with the Mondello Prize Foundation. All the awards will be delivered at the awards ceremony which will take place in Palermo on November 18th.
