When in a pack, journalists often give the worst of themselves. Conversely, of prison drama we have seen few Italians, and He re has the great merit of moving within the genre without pretending to formulate a judgment on the Italian prison system, but without ever falling into superficiality or lack of self-awareness. Prison in Italy is a permanent emergency front, as the screenwriter Peppe Fiore said, it is a topic that is not easy to talk about. Placing the dramatic conflict within a single human being is a very specific field choice that works here, but the microworld that surrounds it (guards, inmates divided by ethnic factions, other organs of the state) is credible and interesting. The gloomy photography, the wide angles, the locationeverything is well harmonized in creating a tense and dirty atmosphere, very coherent and effective.
