Colorful fabrics, cheerful patterns, precious fabrics. These are the Moyo skirts designed by Anita Sapienza, enriched today also by the designs of African women from the “City of Joy”, a place in Congo where women victims of violence find a future. Here the Dutch manufacturer of wax printed fabrics Vlisco has started a collaboration and designed five brightly colored patterns together with some women, the proceeds of which are donated to start a training school in the textile sector.
The start of the business
The choice to start a single-product business pushes her to ask for part-time work for her main activity, a job in a bank in Puglia, in Bari and thus focus on fashion, the love of all time.

The brand was born in December 2019 and immediately many requests are received. A few months after the coronavirus pandemic requires the choice of the digital sales channel. «Contact with each customer turns into a more concrete relationship – says Anita -, made up of advice and suggestions. After all, each of us has our own complexes, which we try to overcome even through a dress ».
Fine fabrics and tailored cut
To distinguish the Moyo skirt brand is the research of fabrics and tailoring. «My research started on the internet – says Anita – then over time I found several suppliers, including an Italian lady who has a home in Tanzania, where she buys fabrics which she then sells. Among the suppliers there is the Dutch Vlisco ».
Anita did extensive market research before starting the business and chose to produce mid-range garments. «Passionate about the style of Odile Jacob and Stella Jean, from which I have always been inspired, I have however chosen to fit into a mid-level market segment».
