Multiple explosions and fire send debris into the air in industrial area near Detroit

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Police warned people Monday night to stay as far away as possible from a fire with multiple explosions that was ravaging a northern Detroit suburb.

The Clinton Township Police Department said on Facebook that there was an active industrial fire near Highway 15 and Groesbeck Highway and debris was being thrown into the air and falling up to a mile (1.6 kilometers) away.

The authorities added that they did not know what was burning and therefore did not know what effects the smoke and that air could have on people.

“We cannot stress enough the dangerous situation that is occurring,” a police post said. “Please, please, please, do not go outside and do not approach the immediate vicinity.”
