New strategy for Valentino: goodbye to furs and the second Red line

by admin

Sustainability and repositioning: with these objectives Valentino has announced two novelties, the choice to give up natural fur for its creations and to close the second Red Valentino line.

The new fur free course, increasingly shared in the fashion industry, will lead to the closure at the end of the year of the Valentino Polar company, based in Milan and owned by
Piazza Mignanelli brand since 2018. The last collection to include fur will be the Fall / Winter 2021-22. According to the note released by the company, Valentino “is already working closely with the trade union representatives for the management of the organizational issues mentioned above and in compliance with the regulations in force in each country”.

The closure of the Red Valentino line, designed for a younger clientele, is part of the company’s repositioning strategy in the direction of a “maison de couture”, which therefore focuses on pret-à-porter and haute couture under the creative direction by Pierpaolo Piccioli. Red was launched in 2003, with an acronym for “Romantic Eccentric Dress” and capable of evoking the famous “Valentino red”. In the latest collections, however, Piccioli had decided to replace this romantic aesthetic with a more minimal and contemporary design. The latest collection on the RedValentino label, which includes clothing and accessories, will be Fall / Winter 2023-24. The brand’s activities will be suspended starting in 2024.

«Maison de Couture for us means creativity, uniqueness, intimacy and an inclusive mindset. The fur-free concept is perfectly aligned with the values of our company. We are rapidly advancing in the search for different materials and with a view to greater attention to the environment for the collections of the coming years », commented Jacopo Venturini, to Valentino.

The renunciation of natural fur is shared with other companies such as Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Versace and Prada, a long list in which Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga, both of the Kering group, have recently joined, as well as retailer Saks Fifth Avenue.
