new ZealandFather Phil came to Taiwan to look for his son and embarked on an unknown journey. In the end, he did not bring his son home, but was arrestedTaiwanesemoved by love and kindness. This story was made into a documentary by director Chen Yongrui, and Phil also spoke through the singer.Jiang HuiThe song soothes the pain of losing his son.

Director Chen Yongrui revisited Fair’s story in writer Liu Kexiang’s book “Fifteen Asteroids”.Phil Tchernegovski’s son Reuben boarded solo in 1998Alishanbut disappeared. Fei, who had not received any news from Ruben for a long time, resolutely embarked on a journey to find his son. Living in the countryside, he was frightened by the busy streets of Taipei at the beginning. Chen Qing set off a sensational report in the Taiwanese media at that time.

In an exclusive interview with reporters, Chen Yongrui said that after seeing Liu Kexiang’s article, he was unable to contact Fair. It was not until the two of them served as reviewers that they had the opportunity to ask questions, and they also relied on the help of Taiwanese in New Zealand.

Chen Yongrui recalled, “Mr. Feil has received many media interviews, but he asked me at the beginning why I wanted to make a documentary. I told him that I wanted to film the beautiful father’s love, and he said nothing to me, all fathers in the world are the same. Yes. I also told him that I wanted to photograph the kindness of Taiwanese, and he agreed immediately.”

Chen Yongrui began to visit Fair online, but found that what he could do was limited, so he decided to fly to New Zealand to shoot in person. Chen Yongrui said with a smile that at that time, because of the limited budget, he took his wife to New Zealand for a holiday in the name of the 20th wedding anniversary, and did not confess to his wife why he chose New Zealand as a tourist destination until the plane landed.

Chen Yongrui said that his wife was not happy at first when she heard the reason, but she was also moved after listening to Fei’s story and thought it was worth remembering, “She knows my personality and also knows that I haven’t made a film for many years. With a lot of determination, she felt very meaningful after listening to the story.”

In the documentary, Chen Yongrui followed Phil through the journey of searching for his children, and also visited the Alishan villagers who had helped him one by one. Fair once said that he lost a son, but gained these friends in Taiwan.

Chen Yongrui said that in the process of Fei’s search for his son, due to the love and kindness of Taiwanese people, he gradually got out of his sadness. “I am also a father, and I can’t imagine what would happen to me. But this is very touching. When he died, someone was willing to help him selflessly and let him get out of the pain.” Chen Yongrui also laughed and said that Fair once said that in Taiwan, there was no need to prepare three meals, and there were always grandma or villagers who took the initiative to send food to care. Break down barriers.

The love given by the Taiwanese, Phil also reciprocates with love. He once returned to Taiwan as a volunteer during the 921 earthquake, rolling up his sleeves to accompany residents to rebuild their homes; as an artist, he also accompanies children in remote areas to create art, healing children and healing the wounds of lost sons.

Chen Yongrui said that Fair’s story is not only a news event, but also an eternal story worth remembering, which can see the kindness of human nature; and Fair is like a mirror, reflecting the appearance of Taiwanese, so that everyone can see the beautiful and kind face of Taiwan.

After coming to Taiwan to look for his son, Phil also had a lot of moving side stories. When he first came to Taiwan, he was moved by Jiang Hui’s singing. Not only did he fall in love with the “half drunk and half sober” he heard at the time, he even bought a full set of albums and brought them back to New Zealand. The fate of the two officially linked, in addition to Jiang Hui writing the preface to Feier’s book “Mountain of the Sleeping Moon”, in 2010, he invited Feier to come to Taiwan to listen to the concert again.

Liu Kexiang also mentioned in an interview that Jiang Hui sang “Half Drunk and Half Sober” for Fair, and Fair was in tears when he heard the melody. “The ‘Wind Blowing Wish’ sung by Jiang Hui and his sister Jiang Shuna in the concert seems to describe the relationship between Fair and his son Ruben.”

Liu Kexiang said, “Taiwanese warmly helped this foreigner, perhaps because his son disappeared here, and he felt a sense of guilt to help. But through the power of a singer, it became another kind of dialogue like with Phil. , is another kind of intimacy.”
