Novara, night tour guided by three ghosts

by admin

Novara is not exactly at the top of Italian cultural tourism, but not because it has little to offer, it’s just that being in an Italy full of wonders, this beautiful city struggles to get noticed in comparison with many others. In this period of proximity tourism, it may be interesting to point out a local initiative that will perhaps attract visitors from a wider range: “A night at the Museums: back in time” is not the title of a film but an experience that visitors will be able to live in Novara on Saturday 11 September 2021, when the portico illuminated with torches will mark the way to the entrance to the Museums of the Canonica open at night. In a path that winds through 13 rooms, artifacts and documents will be proposed that cover a time span that goes from the 6th century BC to the 19th century AD

Regardless of what they contain, the Canonica Museums are already in their own right a suggestive place that has remained almost unchanged over the centuries, offering a unique vision of the urban fabric of a medieval municipality.

Waiting for the participants will be three ghosts. The first is a kind lady of the late nineteenth century (Emanuela Fortuna) who will tell the birth of the Canonica Museums at the beginning of that century and will introduce visitors to the first room of the museum; Bona di Savoia (Maria Rosa Marsilio) will follow who will take you even further back in time, between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, illustrating the precious collections of some Novara Sforzesca, its ancient walls, its passage to Spanish rule. Continuing the visit you can even meet a legionary from ancient Rome (Alessio Caviggioli) who will finally present the Lapidary Museum, the rich collection of tombstones, steles, monuments that recall the belonging of Novara to the Roman Empire – the city was founded as military colony with the name of Nova Aria.

The visit lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes. In compliance with the anti-Covid19 regulations, each group will be composed of a maximum of 12 participants with the following order of entry: 20.30, 21.15 and 22.00. It is advisable to arrive at least 10 minutes before the departure of the visiting group. A minimum offer of 6 euros per participant is required (admission to the Museums included). Reservation is mandatory. For info and reservations write to [email protected], [email protected] or contact 349 3401575.
The initiative is made possible by the collaboration of the Museums of the Canonica del Duomo of Novara, Director Paolo Monticelli, with the ArteLab Association of Novara.

Co-author of the texts of the theatrical visit is the journalist and historian Maria Rosa Marsilio, who recently published a book in which the character she impersonated, Bona di Savoia, also appears. The book is titled Novara 1565, mysteries, ghosts and Templars – Jolanda Filiberta of Challant, Astragalo Editions.
