NOVI LIGURE. It now seems a long time ago, when the Marenco Theater was still a construction site and the Giacometti Theater, literally “leaked”, in the sense that it was raining inside. Yesterday morning, on the other hand, almost surprisingly, Novi saw the curtain rise on the new Giacometti, revived with a captivating and modern restyling, just over 300 seats, very colorful, specially designed for school children who will be the main users. The Novese culture will now be able to count on two theaters, after having also been without it for a period.
«The reopening of the Giacometti Theater – said the councilor for culture, Andrea Sisti – renewed for the schools and theater companies of the territory, is another goal achieved by our administration, in the context of cultural policies. The new season, already planned, will join that of the Marenco. We want Giacometti, just like an atelier open to everyone’s contribution, to become a laboratory of ideas and creativity, especially for the benefit of young people ».
Over the last year, almost quietly, the renovation works have been carried out which involved the replacement of the furniture and armchairs, the restoration of the curtain, the repositioning of new stage lights, the purchase of a new audio system, the refurbishment of the foyer and dressing rooms and finally the whitewashing of all the rooms.
This time, perhaps mindful of the controversy aroused on the old issue of the Dolci Terre di Novi stands stored at the exhibition center, the administration has recovered the old armchairs still in good condition that have been collected by the diocesan Caritas of Tortona which will have them restored. The entire restyling cost about 100 thousand euros, financed by the covid funds of the «Community educational pact». «In order to reopen the Giacometti – added the mayor Gian Paolo Cabella – we had to make choices and give priorities. Soon we will also intervene on the façade to complete the restoration, but the interior spaces are already all safe and functional to be used not only by music and dance schools ».
«Very important for this resyling was the synergy between the municipal offices – specified the municipal manager, Lorenza Monocchio – also to give an answer to the demand for spaces by schools. Now, even the postponed shows will be able to return to the stage ».
