No award for Laura Pausini
Nothing to do for Laura Pausini and Diane Warren who were candidates with “I do”. This award ceremony also offered the best TV moment thanks to the game starring Glenn Close, still never awarded an Oscar – and it is a real injustice – but always at the top also in terms of sympathy and self-irony.
The Oscar for best editing to Mikkel EG Nielsen for “Sound of Metal”, on the podium also for best sound to Nicolas Becker, Jaime Baksht, Michelle Couttolenc, Carlos Cortés and Phillip Bladh.
Best Photography
The statuette for best photography was won by Erik Messerschmidt for “Mank”, also awarded for the best scenography by Donald Graham Burt and Jan Pascale.
The winner for best short was “Two Distant Strangers” directed by Travon Free and Martin Desmond Roe. “Today the police will kill 3 people, tomorrow they will kill 3 people, the day after tomorrow another 3. Because on average the police in the United States kill 3 people a day, a thousand people a year. And they are mostly black people. James Baldwin once said that the worst thing a person can be is being indifferent. So I ask you not to be indifferent ”so celebrated the Travon Free award.
The awards for best makeup and best costume went to “Ma Rainey’s black bottom”. Incredibly and unfairly, for two awards that know so much of “politically correct” rather than merit, “Pinocchio” by Matteo Garrone did not make it.
