Pablo Escobar’s Porsche for sale for $ 2.2 million

by admin

ROME – “Own a piece of history. 1974 911 IROC RSR”: with this title the Atlantis Motor Group of Palm Beach County, Florida, has put up for sale – for 2.2 million dollars (about 1.85 million euros) one of the rarest cars in the world, not only for its limited production but also for one of its former owners: the former king of drug trafficking Pablo Escobar.

The car in question is a Porsche 911 IROC RSR, produced in only 15 units for the first edition – in 1974 – of the International Race of Champions (IROC), won by the American Mark Donohue. The idea was to put 12 identical Porsches (apart from the color) behind the wheel as many champions of different car series to see who was the fastest (three more were built as a precaution): the drivers were – in addition to Donohue – Peter Revson, Bobby Unser, David Pearson, Richard Petty, AJ Foyt, George Fullmer, Dennis Hulme, Bobby Allison, Gordon Johncock, Roger McClusky and Emerson Fittipaldi.

The example for sale, in Sahara Beige color, is the one driven by the Brazilian Fittipaldi, who over the years has since changed hands and also ended up in Escobar’s private collection – where it remained until his death in 1993 – who led it in various competitions. in Colombia, albeit with a 935 body kit.
After the Colombian parenthesis the car, known as the ‘Fittipaldi Car’, was reintroduced in the USA by former driver Roger Penske and has been restored to its original version, including the stickers with the name of Fittipaldi written in large letters on the doors and on the windscreen.
