MILAN – Technology for safety. Piaggio Fast Forward, a robotics company of the Piaggio group, has developed a new sensor technology intended to be implemented on robots for domestic and industrial use, as well as on scooters and motorcycles. So mobility of the future for two wheels is safer thanks to radar and ARAS (Advance rider assistance system), safety and assistance systems.
How do they work? Using Vayyar Imaging radar-on-chips, sensors so small that they can be installed in the mirrors or under the bumpers, Pff has developed a safety platform based on Radar 4D imaging technology. Robots, including Gita, with these devices will be presented at the end of 2021, while motorcycles such as the Vespa equipped with the new sensor will arrive on the market in 2022.
Among the functions to protect motorcyclists, designed to meet specific needs such as dimensions, maneuverability and high inclination angles, there are the Blind Spot Detection, which detects if there is a vehicle in the so-called ‘blind spot’, the Lane Change Assist which monitors the road while the motorcyclist is engaged in lane change and the Forward Collision Warning, which warns if an obstacle is approaching too quickly and you risk a collision, with a single sensor that covers a radius of about 100 meters , with an extremely wide field of view.
“PFF designs technologically advanced solutions for robots and motorcycles, capable of detecting and monitoring the presence of objects in the surrounding environment, in order to provide the information necessary to perform mapping, object detection and control, regardless of lighting , atmospheric conditions and other environmental factors “said Greg Lynn, CEO of Piaggio Fast Forward.
