ROME – To obtain a driving license, the road is likely to become long. And having to be very patient. In Italy there are 359,165 people who have a pink paper and would like to take the driving test, the practical one. Possibly by the end of the year.

This was supported by Unasca (National Union of Driving Schools and Automotive Consulting Firms), which studied the data provided by the Ced della Motorizzazione, until 22 June. At the moment there are 212,990 statins expiring on 30 October, 146,132 expiring extended to 31 December, 43 expiring after 31 December.
Unasca has calculated on the basis of the active statins, province by province, the number of months necessary to clear the back exams which, according to the Highway Code, can take place after the thirty-first day from the achievement of the pink slip. Thus, it goes from 5 and a half months to eliminate the 9,606 pink sheets of Florence, to 7 months for the 2,904 active statins in Pistoia. From 6 months to reset the 3,603 statins in Reggio Emilia, to 6 months for the 14,884 statins in Turin. From the 6 months needed in Vicenza for 6,901 statins, in the case of Como, which would require more than 8 months for 5,934 statins. For Unasca, without a reform of the examiner’s professional figure it will be impossible to eliminate the mass of backward pink papers.
It serves like bread an extension. This is also supported by Emilio Patella, national secretary of the Unasca driving schools. “The origin of the chaos comes from the lockdown and then from the red zones. It is urgently necessary to unblock the employment of retired examiners, who had the go-ahead with the Milleproroghe, but who still cannot return to service. Finally, it should be borne in mind that so far we remain within the perimeter of the emergency. But that must be overcome with an act of institutional courage. Unasca repeats it once again: it is necessary that the figure of the examiner be disconnected from the other tasks carried out today in the offices of the DMV and, that is, to become a full-time profession. Only in this way will we get out of it, because the five months that we have calculated on average in Italy, including the legitimate holidays of the DMV staff, presuppose that the situation remains crystallized net of new retirements and no pink sheets are accumulated from the new theory exams “.
