Pope Francis continues his recovery after the abdominal operation he underwent on Wednesday, with a “normal and fever-free” evolution, and worked this Friday from the Gemelli hospital in Rome, the Vatican reported.

“The medical staff reports that the Pope’s postoperative period continues to be regular and within the norm,” said the director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, in a statement in which he added that he is “without fever” and that “the hemodynamic parameters are normal”, in addition to the fact that he has suspended the serum “and continues to be fed a liquid diet”.

“The afternoon was gathered in prayer and dedicated to work activities,” Bruni said.

The new medical report comes after Bruni stated at noon that Francisco “progressively improves.”

How was the operation to the Pope

According to what Vatican sources told Télam, the Pope reacted better than expected to the intervention carried out under total anesthesia to place an abdominal mesh to prevent a hernia from causing intestinal obstruction.

In any case, as a precaution, Francisco suspended all audiences until Sunday the 18th.

This afternoon, the Pope thanked “from his heart” through the Twitter network “the prayers and the many messages of closeness and affection that have arrived in these days.”

“I pray for everyone, especially for those who suffer. I ask you to continue praying for me,” the pope called.

According to Bruni, “Francisco is moved by the many messages that he continues to receive in these hours; In particular, he intends to direct his thoughts and his gratitude to the children currently hospitalized, for the affection and love received through his drawings and his messages ”.

“To them, as well as to the medical and nursing staff, social health workers and spiritual assistants who touch the pain daily, relieving its weight, expresses its gratitude for their closeness and prayer,” added the papal spokesman.

After starting yesterday to make telephone calls from the hospital, the Pope is already in contact with his collaborators and keeps abreast of the amount of affection that has come from all over the world.

For the moment, his return to Casa Santa Marta is scheduled for the middle or end of next week, although this Sunday he could already pray the Angelus from the 10th floor of the hospital.
