Volkswagen does not give up on the electric challenge. On the contrary: the Wolfsburg giant has just announced even more important plans for the transition to electric mobility, and actively contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the European Union’s Green Deal. A strategy, that of the relationship with the user of electric vehicles, which passes not only for the increase in the production of batteries but also for the increase of electric range and the optimization of the charging network. Together with its partners – BP in Great Britain, Iberdrola in Spain and Enel in Italy – Volkswagen intends to operate around 18,000 public fast charging points in Europe by 2025. This represents a fivefold expansion of the fast charging network compared to today. and corresponds to about one third of the total demand forecast on the continent for 2025.
This will happen through a number of strategic partnerships in addition to the Ionity joint venture. Volkswagen wants to establish around 8,000 fast charging points across Europe together with BP. In collaboration with Iberdrola, Volkswagen will cover the main traffic routes in Spain. In Italy, Volkswagen wants to collaborate with Enel to build the fast charging network both along motorways and in urban areas. Volkswagen will invest around 400 million euros in the European program as a whole by 2025, with further investments from external partners.
