Renaissance Turin, The City presents nine months of great events

TURIN. About sixty major events spread from April to the end of the year, those on which the Municipality and Turin want to bet to start again after the last two years of suffering. At the center is May, when the city will enjoy the international showcase of the Eurovision Song Contest, but also the Book Fair and the arrival stage of the Giro d’Italia and the Festival of Economics. The summer will also bring stadium concerts back to the Mole: Cesare Cremonini (June 15), Vasco Rossi (June 30) and Rammstein (July 12) will perform at the Olimpico.

It is a sort of Renaissance in the name of projects and events, the one that was presented yesterday by the councilors Rosanna Purchia (Culture), Mimmo Carretta (Tourism) and Paolo Chiavarino (Commerce). Or, as some have renamed it, a “Turin spring”.

A first novelty concerns the celebrations of April 25, when the Civic Palace will show itself in a new guise. “Never before have we felt proud of the significance of this date, in the face of the tragedy of the war – says Purchia – The idea was born from a walk in the city with Luca Bigazzi, the great director of photography of Italian cinema: under his directed the facade of the Municipality will light up for 24 hours with the historical images of the Liberation and the voices of that era ». From midnight on 24th to midnight on 25th April. An initiative that will involve the students of the Albertina Academy and the Conservatory: at the stroke of every hour a student will read a letter from a man sentenced to death. For Turin, the “Invitation to Pompeii” exhibition at Palazzo Madama from 8 April to 29 August is an absolute first. Already on Friday 25 March it will be possible to witness the opening of the two boxes containing the “Mosaic with a dolphin from a thermal environment” and the “Wall frescoed with garden painting”.

We are making great strides towards Eurovision (May 10-14): the first delegations will arrive on April 28, the Eurovillage will open at Valentino on May 6, where there will be a calendar of collateral events to support the main evenings. “Looking to 2023, we want to re-propose some of the strengths of the city, rediscovering our vocation for the great music festivals as Traffic once was,” says Councilor Carretta. In June it is the turn of the Turin Jazz Festival, while the Kappa Futurfestival returns to Parco Dora in July. Then there are the smaller events, which however involve the entire commercial sector of the city. “We have already approved 436 appointments between street parties, thematic markets, producers’ markets and Opi – says Chiavarino – Apparently they are micro events, which however attract participation in areas that would be at risk of deterioration”.

At the forefront, the trade associations, which do not fail to send messages to the Municipality. “Unfortunately the city has dozens of buildings packed with scaffolding, but at least under the arcades it is good to give the image of a clean and dignified city” says Maria Luisa Coppa (Ascom Confcommercio). Giancarlo Banchieri (Confesercenti) invites the city “to take a leap forward for the growth of tourism, starting with air connections with Ryanair’s investments, but also thanks to the railway connection that will soon be opened with the airport”. –
