Road accidents, report cards to the Regions: Valle d’Aosta the most virtuous

by admin

With the resumption of mobility after the lockdown periods, traffic in Italy has started again, which has also brought with it a surge in road accidents. But where are there more accidents, in the north or in the south? In the city or in the province? To answer these questions, the Verti Assicurazioni observatory, which monthly analyzes data on mobility in our country, highlighted which are the most virtuous Italian regions and which, on the other hand, are those with the most imprudent or inattentive drivers (or perhaps with less safe roads). For example, in terms of road safety, the first place goes to the Aosta Valley, which boasts an accident rate for cars of 3.2% (in practice, 3.2 accidents per 100 insured vehicles). This is also confirmed by the ISTAT Report, which records a zero number of road accident victims per 100,000 inhabitants in the Aosta Valley. The roads of Campania and Calabria, on the other hand, are those on which the most accidents occur, recording an accident rate of 8.1% and 7.5% respectively for cars. The same trends are reflected in motorcycle accidents, with Calabria boasting a negative record and a loss rate for two-wheelers equal to 5.4% and Valle d’Aosta first in its class with a rate of 0%. Going into the details of cities and provinces, we see how urban roads are much more dangerous, probably due to more unfavorable traffic and road conditions. In line with the Istat Report – which in 2020 recorded 73% of accidents in the city against 22% of suburban roads and 4.6% of motorways – also according to the Verti Observatory, large cities, from north to south, are the places with the highest number of accidents with a gap compared to the small municipalities of the province quite evident on almost the whole territory. And while Rome and Turin – with an accident rate of 5.2% and 5.1% respectively – win the not so honorable record of less virtuous cities from the point of view of road safety, where for safety we consider the low frequency of claims, in the opposite pole are Bergamo, with a claims rate of 3.6%, and Venice and Padua, which both boast a 3.7% percentage. In the case of motorcycle accidents, for which the accident gap between city and province is less marked, the Venetian cities – in this case Padua and Verona – are once again the most diligent, while Palermo is the least safe. In short, there is still a long way to go on road safety
