Sixteen centuries of the history of Venice, which symbolically celebrates its birthday on March 25, and 16 the colors in which Rubelli – a Venetian family business now in its fifth generation – pays homage to the city. The fabric dedicated to the occasion is called San Polo and it is the “son” of the stainless San Marco damask, which has been in the collection for over a century: a fabric that is “alive” in color and surface, in the sense that it is worked in a weave with tensions different, to give it a unique characteristic, that of the typical relief of the crepe damask characteristic of the manual processing of the past (now reproducible not only by hand but also on traditional looms) also in 16 colors.

The new San Polo – even the name is a tribute that comes from the Venetian church of San Paolo Apostolo – takes its inspiration from history. but it declines it in bright and bright colors: made only of Italian silk, pure color with iridescent effects, it is also the sign of hope in a brighter future.

A versatile damask, suitable for fashion

San Marco and San Polo are also two of the six sestieri (neighborhoods) into which the historic city of Venice is divided. The new glamorous damask, full of energy, also winks at the world of fashion because it is suitable for fashion details, not just for decoration. A damask with a strong personality, like that of the great Venetian merchant and explorer whose name the two Rubelli damasks unknowingly bear: by removing the two “saints”, Marco Polo remains, with the Silk Road thanks to which Venice strengthened its own textile tradition, in which it will dominate in the fifteenth century with productions of the highest quality.
