Anti-Semitic writings (two Celtic crosses and the word Juden) on the window of a shop in Via Pia, in Savona. A vandal raid that immediately unleashed the unanimous and bipartisan condemnation of the municipal administrators, just as the police are checking the presence of video surveillance cameras in the area that can show those responsible for this vile gesture. The mayor of Savona, Marco Russo: «I also express solidarity with the owner of the damaged shop on behalf of the council and the entire city. It is an intolerable and disturbing act not only because it is vandalism that damages a commercial establishment in the heart of our city for free, but above all because it highlights the presence of a thought that offends the democratic, anti-fascist and anti-racist culture of Savona. We must all be vigilant together so that these acts are not repeated ». However, the owner of the antiques shop targeted by the vandals does not have Jewish origins: it is therefore not excluded that the shop was chosen by chance. Condemnations also by the president of the city council, Franco Lirosi, and group leader of the League, Maurizio Scaramuzza. Firm words from the Anpi: «We could never have thought that in the city of Savona, solidarity and civil, anti-fascist and anti-racist, gold medal of the Resistance, we could witness such a cowardly act. This serious incident strengthens more and more our conviction on the need that the fundamental principles of the Anpi must be shared and brought into every social formation and above all disseminated through schools of all levels. In close dialogue with society and politics, an anti-fascist and republican public space must be created, which must become an essential and decisive part of the wider realization of democratic life. Let’s not take a step back ».
