Seamless, smart and ecological: Cifra takes fabrics into the future

by admin

In recent months, in addition to “resilience”, one of the most pronounced terms has been “adaptation”: knowing how to evolve in these fast and uncertain times is an art, more than a skill. But like people, there are companies that have built their fortunes on following the changes of their times. Cifra, a textile company based in Verano Brianza, is an example: the Citterio family founded it in the 70s to produce nets for olive harvesting, to switch in the 80s to the packaging of socks and tights, and change again at the beginning of the 2000s, focusing on textile products made in 3d.

To have this intuition was Cesare Citterio, today CEO of the company, who twenty years ago decided to spend a year learning the operation of special jacquard looms at their manufacturer, the German Karl Mayer. From that experience the special Cifra technology took shape, Warp Knit Seamless (WKS), which allows the creation of clothing for fashion, sport and activewear, characterized by the absence of seams, the ability to model itself on the body of the wearer, warp-knit, but also lightness and ventilation.

A know-how that has allowed the company to become one of the most appreciated world producers of this kind of fabrics, reaching a turnover of 13 million euros in 2019, with 95 employees and 80% of the production of 15 thousand garments per day abroad. .

The first antimicrobial athleisure

Then came Covid19, which however in a certain sense supported Cifra’s business: the year of the pandemic was in fact that of the boom of comfortable and versatile clothing, suitable for a very smart and very homely life, of suits, of leggins, of athleisure garments. And that is why, after launching a Q-Skin antimicrobial fabric mask by Amni Virus Bac-Off, Cifra has made another evolution, transforming that project into Warp-Mask, a collection of athleisure made with the same fabric: «We have been active since March last year by providing our technology and our know-how to create clothing for personal protection – explains Citterio -. Then we created a sports line that protects and limits cross contamination, because the virus can remain on textile surfaces for up to three days. Garments made with this yarn have a technology based on silver ions that neutralize the virus in minutes. This principle is permanent in the garments, that is, it is not linked to the number of washes. Their main use will be in gyms, but we also see strong growth in sports such as yoga, biking and running. And even when we have emerged from the pandemic we will be more careful in contact with surfaces ».

Investments in sustainability

Another channel to interpret and follow the spirit of the times is to invest in sustainability: on this front Cifra is committed both with the Zero Waste project, eliminating production waste by virtue of the Warp Seamless technology itself, and with the use of yarns obtained from recycled materials, such as Aquafil’s Econyl, Fulgar’s Qnova and Nilit Fibers’ Ecocare.
