Almost 6,000 young people will arrive in Turin from all over Europe to end the year in the name of peace, brotherhood and hope. For the first time Turin hosts, from 28 December to 1 January, the New Year with Taizé, the event organized by the religious community that every year gathers young Christians of different confessions in moments of prayer, culture, spirituality. «It is a very important event – explains the archbishop, Monsignor Cesare Nosiglia, presenting the appointment – of knowledge and dialogue and can demonstrate how welcoming Turin and its territory are and go beyond walls and barriers. These young people are pilgrims of peace, builders of a new world, it is a sign of peace and universal brotherhood ”.
Young people will be welcomed by families and pastoral communities. The program includes moments of prayer, including a common one at the Oval, and workshops on spiritual, social and cultural themes. Planned for the evening of December 31 a simple dinner in the parishes, the prayer for peace and the feast of peoples. The contemplation of the Shroud is also scheduled. For the mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo, it is «an extraordinary opportunity with a great symbolic value. Having such an important international event characterized by the typical values of Taizé, inclusion, tolerance, breaking down barriers, is a message of peace and brotherhood, an important signal for the city. In such a complicated moment in the life of the city community, in which the emergency has not yet ceased, being able to host a meeting with so many young people from all over Europe is a signal of restart and hope for the future ».
