[The Epoch Times, September 30, 2021](The Epoch Times reporter Zhou Hanyin reported in New York) On Wednesday (September 29) morning, Taiwanese artist Lin Shibao held a one-day exhibition of “No Door Art Museum” at Flushing Maple Leaf Stadium. Flushing residents exhibited 4 zodiac art works created with recycled subway cards-tiger, snake, horse and pig.

Among them, “Tiger King—The King is Fearless” was created by Lin Shibao using 3,000 New York MTA subway cards recovered this year. Inspired by the 2022 Chinese zodiac “Tiger”, he borrowed the totem image of the tiger in the Chinese zodiac, and hopes to pass it on during the epidemic. The message of happiness, love and peace will fuel the fight against the epidemic in New York, the United States and the world.

In Chinese culture, the tiger is regarded as an animal with strong physique, fearless king and strong vitality. The next year is the Year of the Tiger. The “No Door Art Museum” exhibition aims to give the meaning of tiger totem to every audience, and we look forward to the courage to face everything and face the future in the coming year.

Lin Shibao said that the creation of MTA subway cards represents that MTA, as the main artery of New York transportation, meets the daily travel needs of tens of thousands of New Yorkers of different skin colors, different cultural backgrounds, different religions and different nationalities. The subway card donated by people from all walks of life in the work also symbolizes every ordinary person in the society.

Lin Shibao introduced that the theme of the whole work is “the king is fearless”, and the graphic in the middle of the work is a combination of the traditional Chinese “tiger totem” and the “eagle” symbolizing the United States. The Chinese cultural totem, dressed in a contemporary coat of MTA with a strong urban atmosphere, is presented to people as a fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, breaking through the limitations of ancient and modern time, and implying unlimited possibilities for cultural integration and cooperation.

Lin Shibao has used the recycled subway cards to create ten zodiac signs of the Chinese zodiac, and next he hopes to create the remaining two zodiac signs-the rabbit and the sheep. These two zodiac signs need to be made with white subway cards. The white subway cards are small and difficult to collect. If there are citizens who want to donate the white subway cards, they can send an email to [email protected] to contact the artist Lin Shibao.

The New York City Artist Corps also provided US$5,000 in sponsorship for the art exhibition. ◇
