Taipei Prosecutor Summons Chen Qizhen to Court on Copyright Act Violation Charges

Taipei, Taiwan – January 11

Chen Qizhen, a well-known figure in Taiwan’s entertainment industry, appeared in court for the first time as a defendant on January 11. The Taipei Prosecutor’s Office summoned her to face charges of violating the Copyright Act and other crimes. The case stems from a lawsuit filed by Tianyichuang Company.

Despite attempting to keep a low profile by wearing a mask and a hat, Chen Qizhen was still spotted by reporters as she arrived at the court. After the trial, which lasted about an hour, she was seen shuttling back and forth between the court and the District Attorney’s Office in an effort to avoid the media. Her lawyer went as far as blocking the camera, refusing to accept interviews.

When approached by reporters as she left the court, Chen Qizhen briefly responded to questions about the case, stating that “It is under investigation” and that it was “not convenient to explain.” She then swiftly departed in a waiting car.

The legal proceedings stem from a breakup between Chen Qizhen and her former partner, producer Zhong Chenghu, with whom she had been in a relationship for 18 years. The breakup led to a contract dispute, with Zhong Chenghu and his subsidiary Tianyi Chuangyue Studio accusing Chen Qizhen of personality and ethical issues, as well as emotionally bullying her colleagues.

Chen Qizhen reportedly claimed that she has the right to make decisions for herself and that her contract is full. The ongoing legal battle has brought the personal and professional lives of these well-known figures into the public eye, sparking interest and speculation in the media and among the public.
