Tesla opens its Supercharger charging network to everyone

by admin

ROME – There is no peace for Tesla. For a variety of reasons, for better or for worse, the Californian factory founded by the visionary entrepreneur Elon Musk is always the center of attention. And the various vicissitudes that see it involved (the latest is the recall of over 285,000 cars between Model 3 and Model Y in China due to a cruise control problem), could have influenced the change of strategy in accessibility to its network of charging. Tesla, in fact, would have confirmed to some Norwegian officials its intentions to make the Supercharger electric vehicle charging network accessible to other car manufacturers by September next year. On the other hand, the effort made by the electric supercar brand in building its network from scratch, instead of relying on third-party charging facilities like most other automotive manufacturers, has been remarkable and this solution could represent a new business. profitable. Currently, ten years after the launch of the first Supercharger, Tesla has over 25,000 Superchargers in more than 2,700 stations around the world, but unlike third-party networks, only Tesla vehicles can recharge at the Supercharger network.

In the past, the Californian company had already mentioned the possibility of sharing the Supercharger network with other car manufacturers, but the obstacle has always been represented by reaching an agreement on the sharing of costs. Tesla would then be in contact with Vestland fylkeskommune, the governing body of Vestland county in Norway, to gain access to some incentives for the installation of its charging stations. The indispensable condition for accessing government incentives, however, is that the charging stations are open to owners of electric vehicles from all car manufacturers. According to what was reported by the specialized portal “Electrek”, in some minutes the Norwegian government officials would confirm that Tesla would have declared that it plans to open the Supercharger network to other car manufacturers by September 2022 which is why they agree to approve the provision of incentives. At the moment, however, there is no information regarding the possibility that the opening of the charging network of Tesla’s powerful Superchargers may also concern other countries besides Norway.
