Textile, in Albini’s laboratory colors are friends of nature

“How many times have we said or heard it said that we would draw important lessons from the pandemic and that we would never forget to depend on each other and that our future is linked to collaboration and listening, as well as to understanding the complexity of post-globalization world? “.

This question is asked by Stefano Albini, at the head of the family textile group, one of the most important in Europe and absolute leader in shirt fabrics. Unfortunately, the answer is that in 2020 and partly in 2021 it really seemed that after Covid many things would change for the better. It is too early to say if this will be the case, also because after the pandemic came the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and all the geopolitical tensions we see and experience. «The Albini_next project was born in 2019, but what happened the following year did not stop us, on the contrary – explains Stefano Albini -. In moments of crisis, personal, corporate or even global, the only thing that can keep us going is to imagine the future. Indeed, dream it: today we must all try to have a more sustainable vision of what we do every day: it is true for individuals, for companies, for countries. And everything passes through research, economic but also personal investments: one must have the courage to embrace a thought that is halfway between the magical and the lateral ».

Albini_next is located inside Kilometro Rosso, it is not an integral part of the headquarters of the Bergamo group, which is in Albino, at the entrance to the Seriana valley. «It is not a random choice: Kilometro Rosso is obviously an ideal place, a sort of perfect greenhouse to let ideas sprout and create links between the world of research and companies – explains Albini -. But it was also important to put some physical distance between our headquarters and these laboratories: in Albino, research means above all creativity and fine-tuning of new fabric collections, obviously without excluding process innovations. But Albini_next goes further, broadens the horizons of the very idea of research: we do not even exclude the possibility of projects that do not have a direct application or usefulness for our group. The important thing is to act as a catalyst for energy and attract talents from all over the world ».

The Albini group has always been at the forefront of environmental and social sustainability and began a transition to renewable energy sources long before the various national and European objectives were introduced. «However, sustainability is a path, a commitment that can never end, also because the textile-fashion-accessory is a system that consumes many resources, energy and not only – adds Stefano Albini -. The younger generations are very attentive to these issues, they demand commitment, transparency and certification of the promises they make. And therefore our direct customers, the companies that produce clothing and accessories, in turn ask us for more and more commitment and transparency “,

From 18 to 24 April Albini joined the 2022 edition of the #whomademyclothes (literally: who made my clothes) awareness campaign, launched by Fashion Revolution, an international movement that aims to make the fashion industry more sustainable and transparent. This year’s theme was Money Fashion Power, which includes the invitation to all companies to create a new virtuous circle that is not bound by the logic of exploitation of work and resources and is not solicited solely and exclusively by profit.
