The next edition of the International Economy Festival will take place in Turin. The choice was made official yesterday, after a mobilization involving all the city institutions, supported by “La Stampa” with a campaign that led to the collection of hundreds of signatures in support of the initiative. First, an appeal signed by personalities from city public life, managers, professionals, students. Then an official candidacy letter, signed by the governor of Piedmont Alberto Cirio, which had the desired effect and defeated over 20 competitors: the Editors Laterza, Tito Boeri and Innocenzo Cipolletta accepted the invitation of the Region and the city, together to the Compagnia di San Paolo, the Crt Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce, the University, the Polytechnic and the Carlo Alberto College, and will organize the event from 2 to 5 June under the Mole, with «La Stampa» as media partner.

A choice made after the divorce from Trento, in September. The leitmotif will be an in-depth discussion on the theme of inequalities and will be entitled “Merit, diversity, social justice”. «The Covid crisis – explain the organizers – has given us back a more unequal and above all differently unequal world. New forms of inequality overlapped existing ones. The differences in health and housing conditions were added to the income gaps ”.

A victory for the city that reacted compactly. “Piedmont and Turin are central to the economic system of Italy and now they will also be central to the debate on which the Festival has always been an authoritative and prestigious stage”, comments Cirio, underlining that “we will try to involve the whole Piedmont in this new important adventure ». The new mayor Stefano Lo Russo is also enthusiastic: «It is a magnificent opportunity. Turin must become attractive from the outside ». In the front row the Foundations. «From Turin and through Turin we will talk to the whole world about the economy of the future. It is recognition for the excellent teamwork put in place. I am particularly pleased that our contribution has evolved into a group logic: the Compagnia through the economic support and the ability to mobilize the ecosystem, the Collegio Carlo Alberto through the coordination activity of the local committee “, says the president of Company of St. Paul, Francesco Profumo. “The value of work, the ethics of saving, the social dimension of entrepreneurial action, too, are fundamental elements of Turin’s DNA: the roots of its history and, at the same time, the growth trajectories of today and tomorrow”, highlights the president of the Crt Giovanni Quaglia Foundation.

Dario Gallina, president of the Chamber of Commerce, underlines that “we have guaranteed our support for the realization of the event, which will bring prestige and visibility not only to the city, but to all institutions”. “It seems to me significant and very nice – adds the president of the Industrial Union, Giorgio Marsiaj – that the theme, particularly dear to me, concerns the forms of social inequality, which the pandemic has exacerbated, and which find a particular sensitivity in Turin” . And the two rectors are also exulting. “It is a recognition that rewards a vision, as well as the design capacity demonstrated by a group of cultural subjects who have mobilized with enthusiasm”, explains the rector of the University Stefano Geuna. «Excellent news also for the topic it deals with. It is necessary in this particular historical moment – concludes the rector of the Polytechnic, Guido Saracco – to develop new economic models that were more sustainable ». – © breaking latest news
