ROME. Tenor Giuseppe Giacomini passed away at the age of 80. The announcement was made by the superintendent and artistic director of the Verona Arena, Cecilia Gasdia, on behalf of the entire Foundation. Born in Padua in 1940, Giuseppe Giacomini would have turned 81 next September. Sick for some time, he had retired from the stage after a long career studded with great successes in Italy and abroad, which earned him various awards and honors, from the Zenatello prize to the nomination of the Vienna Opera at Kammersanger.

He distinguished himself for his unique vocal skills, in dramatic tenor roles in an extremely wide repertoire, from the great titles of Belcanto and Verdi, to Puccini and Verismo, up to world premieres by contemporary authors. Since debuting in 1966 as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly in Vercelli, after a long apprenticeship, he rose to prominence in the most important theaters in the world: Milan, Rome, Naples, Parma, Turin, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Zurich, Paris, Brussels, Barcelona, ​​London, Oslo, Budapest, New York , Houston, Buenos Aires, Moscow, Seoul. In Verona, he was a constant protagonist for over twenty years in new historical productions together with exceptional casts, both at the Verona Arena and at the Philharmonic Theater, unforgettable Cavaradossi, Radamès, Otello, but also Manrico and Alvaro.
