The home-made electric car of records: Aghem’s enterprise

ROMA – He designed it, studied it, built it and guided it on the track to conquer two world records. The undertaking was carried out by a “boy” from Turin, Gianmaria Aghem, born in 1947, entrepreneur and pilot. It is difficult to understand what the greatest success was: designing and building the Blizz Primatist, a latest generation electric single-seater or conquering the world records of Category VIII Class on Friday 30 April and Saturday 1 May, on the high-speed circuit of the Nardò Technical Center. 1 up to 500 Kg (effective 499 Kg.) And Class 2 from 500 Kg to 1.000 Kg? Certainly two great companies.

It is difficult for Gianmaria Aghem to divide the emotions of the manufacturer and the driver: “I am really satisfied. It was an amazing and exciting weekend. These records are the result of a great job and a great team, a wonderful adventure that began in 2016. I want to thank all the people who believed in this project from my heart. Blizz Primatist is not only an electric single-seater, but also a profound study in the field of zero-emission vehicles, aimed at improving energy efficiency, allowing a decrease in consumption, obtaining greater autonomy. Our goal was to demonstrate that a battery-powered car can travel long distances and at speeds that were unimaginable a few years ago. And I really believe that we have succeeded! ”.

For the realization of this ambitious project, the pilot from Moncalier made use of the collaboration of Eugenio Pagliano (designer of ZER), of the specialists of Carbonteam Srl of Saluzzo and of Podium Engineering Srl of Pont Saint Martin, of the support of the Polytechnic of Turin and of professionals with important experiences in the automotive world. The team of engineers and designers has developed a vehicle propelled by a lightweight axial flux asynchronous motor of the latest generation, powered by lithium-ion batteries. The engine, which has a weight of 20 Kg, it is capable of delivering a peak power of over 200 hp and has been optimized for the weekend at the Nardò Technical Center. The battery pack is made up of 2,688 lithium-ion cells, previously selected and managed by an algorithm already tested in Formula 1.

Primatist’s main goal was to demonstrate that a battery-powered car can travel long distances and at speeds that were unimaginable a few years ago. For this reason Aghem, with his single-seater, has achieved records on the Nardò Technical Center circuit.

The car was designed with the aim of minimizing weights and allowing it to fall into class 1 below 500 kg, including batteries. The sturdy steel frame makes up the supporting structure and forms the safety cell for the rider. The bodywork, studied in the wind tunnel to minimize aerodynamic drag, used exclusively carbon fiber and is the result of the compromise between solidity and lightness. The engine, which weighs 20 kg, delivers a peak power of over 200 hp.
