The Others, 10 years of commitment from the environment to women in art interprets our present

The Others this year celebrates its tenth birthday from 4 to 7 November in Pavilion 3 of Torino Esposizioni. It will be an edition that will turn the spotlight on global topical issues in the name of the contemporary, to read and interpret our times with the language of art. 56 Italian and foreign galleries participate in the event, which will tell visitors a cross-section of emerging national and international art. Among the topical issues there is first of all the environment, addressed for example by the artists Malin Ståhl, Hiroko Tsuchimoto and Anita Wernström of the IntraGalactic collective, who will transform their stand into a garden, or by Noemi Mirata, presented by the Die Mauer gallery, which will investigate the dynamics between the individual and the plant world. His work is the almost exasperated search for a lost or forgotten place, where nature is the place from which everything originates and to which everything returns. Then there is the theme of women: from the role in Kurdish culture, with rigid linguistic norms and values to be adopted or avoided in public with Mouches Volantes; to the galleries that only welcome the work of artists, including the SheBam! with the Vice Versa project. The female gaze turns to the search for memory and time: Harriet Riddell of the C + N Canepaneri Gallery talks about the sewing ritual, and Arianna Greci of Attiva Cultural Projects proposes a reflection on the domestic sedimentation of memories and the past.

Curious is the theme of the “mystical and sensual rapture” observed from the point of view of female artists. A central theme for the research of Galamb Thordai and Dorothée Louise Recker with the focus on impulses and desires. The artists Greht, Daniil Vasiliev and Stasya Grishina of the Yaba gallery instead use art to go in search of the mystical experience. A glance of The Others is then turned to the future with the eyes of millennials, and their vision is made of monstrosity, between acceptance and celebration of tomorrow. The Candy Snake gallery tackles this topic with the project “Against Domesticity: Making Room for the Inappropriate / d Other” and the La Capsula gallery that talks about the stigmatization of mental health, disability and the queer community. And again the theme of matter, with its transformation, adaptation and perception of reality. As the duo Schälling | shows us Enderle of the V / Mps Gallery, using sculpture, and Matteo Negri, Isabella Nazzari, Giulio Zanet, who analyze the concretization of ideas on paper. Last but not least is the fil rouge of music: The Others offers an important open-air music festival curated by the Tum association, which will see live and avant-garde underground sound research every evening, in the green area outside Pavilion 3. Ad accompany the music the shots of Ron Galella, considered the most famous paparazzo in the world and a pioneer.
