MILAN – Automobile means research. Not for everyone alike, but in the case of Pininfarina the exercise has reached unique levels. It may be due to the corporate culture, it may be due to the top role it has always had in the automotive sector, but what is certain is that the Pininfarina name is linked like no other to the automobile seen in perspective: stylistic and technical.

“Pininfarina, the story of a myth”: the complete work of the Italian genius of shapes in the bookshop

If the founder Giovanbattista Farina was a visionary esthete, the company he created immediately and forever became a forge dedicated to the progress of the car seen at 360 °, with passion and extraordinary competence. Mission that in the current structure made up of Automobili Pininfarina and Pininfarina SpA, controlled by Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. It is pursued with the same enthusiasm and with new possibilities.

The Mauto of Turin has dedicated the exhibition to this spirit of technical and artistic innovation The Shape of the Future, open until 12 September. An exhibition that also counts on specific multimedia contents, including an audio guide for which the current president, Paolo Pininfarina, has personally created the video stories that illustrate and reveal the meanings and background of the models on display.

There are 16 cars with which the history and the contribution that the prestigious “body shop” has given in over 90 years of activity to the evolution of the automotive species is celebrated and is divided into specific sectors such as: Art, Style, Research, Technology, Myth and Future. Each of these areas hosts their respective most representative models: from the unrivaled Cisitalia 202 of 1947, a classic also exhibited at the MoMA in New York, up to the 2019 Ypercar Battista which expresses the pinnacle of today’s electrification.

Through this synthesis of Pininfarina creations, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the profound changes that have accompanied the evolution of taste and, at the same time, the development of mobility itself and its ability to adapt to the times and technological progress. ù

“The shape of the future is always at the center of our every thought”, says Silvio Angori, CEO of Pininfarina, “In the next decade the car will no longer be as we have thought and built it for 90 years. It will be connected, shared, electrified, autonomous. We are inside this revolution. The cross fertilization of all our skills, from automotive to architecture, from interior design to experience design, will determine the mobility of the future signed by Pininfarina “.
