The record of the electric Kona: 790 km with a full tank of energy

ROME – Who said that the range of an electric car is always too short? In the case of Hyundai, however, he will have to change his mind. The Korean manufacturer’s Kona set a new record by covering a total of 790 kilometers on a single charge. By surpassing the approved 660-kilometer range in the urban cycle (WLTP), Hyundai underlines its position at the forefront of electric mobility. With a fully charged 64 kWh battery, the Kona (the test was carried out by the newspaper El Pais) drove a total of 15 hours and 17 minutes in Madrid traffic.

In that time window, the model traveled 790 kilometers at an average speed of 52.19 km / h, with an average electricity consumption of 8.2 kWh / 100 km. This value is well below that calculated according to the WLTP standard of 14.7 kWh / 100 km.

The Hyundai compact SUV started from INSIA, the Automotive Research Center of the Technical University of Madrid, which certified the test after having recharged the battery and sealed the car’s charging door. The test was carried out along the M-30, the Madrid ring road, including the sections to and from the INSIA headquarters. The new 150 kW (204 hp) Kona Electric used for the test was equipped with full-option equipment and has not been modified in any way.

During the test, the three drivers took turns behind the wheel of the car, for a total of more than 15 hours of driving necessary to bring the model to its limit of autonomy.
